Another former England cricketer Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji, who was famously known as Ranji, was the uncle of Kumar Shri Duleepsinhji. Ranjitsinhji was born in Sarodar (Kathiawar, India) on 10th September 1872.

England cricketer Ranji made his Test debut in 1896 English summer during the Manchester Test against Australia. His last Test was also against Australia at Manchester in 1902. After playing 15 Tests for England, Ranji scored 989 runs with an average of 44.95, including two centuries and six half-centuries. India national cricket team didn’t make their international debut during Ranji’s cricket career.

After his international career for England, Ranji was the ruler of the Indian princely state of Nawanagar from 1907 to 1933.

On the other hand, he played 307 first-class matches from 1893 to 1920, where the right-handed batsman scored 24692 runs (average 56.37), including 72 centuries and 109 half-centuries, and also managed to pick up 133 wickets, including one Test wicket.

Ranji Trophy, the domestic first-class cricket championship in India, has been named after Ranji.
