An Indian woman cricketer approached Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) of the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) for two men awarding her a big amount of money for match-fixing. This is the first incident in woman cricket. Following, the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), several players approached for the same and the inquiry has been started by the ACU.
An unknown woman cricketer alleged that two men approached her this year ahead of the India-England limited over series. The case has been taken up by the Central Crime Branch for the investigation.

Ajit Singh Shekhawat, the former DGP of Rajasthan and who heads the BCCI’s ACU, confirmed the match-fixing incident to PTI.
“She is an India cricketer and also an international cricketer. So, the ICC conducted an inquiry into it. The ICC warned the person who made the approach and informed us and acknowledged that the cricketer has done the right thing by reporting the approach,” Shekhawat said.
According to police sources, Rakesh Bafna and Jithendra Kothari, the two men, in February this year contacted the woman cricketer in a city hotel.
TNPL is also under the scan for match-fixing
On the other side, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association’s TNPL has come under the scanner of ACU as six to seven players were approached through Whats App for match-fixing.
“Some players have reported that they received WhatsApp messages from certain unknown people. We are trying to find out who those people are. We have recorded the statements of the players and we will try to track the senders of the messages,” Shekhawat said.
Shekhawat also said that they have also received similar reports of match-fixing from Karnataka Premier League (KPL).
A committee has been appointed by TNCA to investigate into the matter
“Having received information of acts that would constitute, if accurate, offences under the regulatory framework of the TNPL, the TNCA had appointed a committee to enquire into the issue and submit a report,” TNPL governing council chairman P S Raman said in a press release in Chennai.
The TNPL was also the talk of the town because VB Chandrasekhar, one of the team owner, attempted suicide on the day of the final match last month.

Once again Indian cricket is surrounded by match-fixing cases. It started since the 2000 scandal involving the late South African captain Hansie Cronje. And in 2013, two IPL franchises were also investigated and banned for two years for match-fixing. Now such cases are being reported again to BCCI.
