Nike launched the new jersey of Indian national cricket team on Friday (1 March). The former World Cup-winning Indian captain and present limited-overs wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni is hopeful on the fate of new jersey.
Just one day ahead from the opening ODI of the home ODI series against Australia, Nike launched the new Indian ODI jersey. Among the men’s cricketers, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane and Prithvi Shaw were present in that launch. Meanwhile, the women’s cricketers Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues also attended in that event.
India and Australia will play the five-match ODI series from this Saturday (2 March). From the opening ODI of the series, India will come out with the new ODI jersey. Moreover, the Indian cricketers will carry on this new jersey in the upcoming World Cup. England and Wales will host the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup from 30 May to 14 July.
In the new ODI jersey’s launch event, MS Dhoni spoke about the legacy of Indian cricket.
Talking about the Indian jersey, MS Dhoni said, “It always reminds me of the great legacy that we have got. It’s not only that. Playing each and every bilateral series, reaching No 1 across formats, all these are motivational stuff.”
It feels good to always get into past a bit
In that event, MS Dhoni spoke about India’s most significant tournament victories in international cricket history. At first, he mentioned India’s first ever World Cup victory in 1983 under Kapil Dev’s captaincy. Then he added India’s win in 2007 ICC World T20 and 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. India achieved both those successes under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. He wishes to the next generation to carry forward this thriving culture.
MS Dhoni added, “It feels good to always get into past a bit. During the first World Cup in 1983, we were very young. Later, saw videos of how everyone celebrated. In 2007, we won World T20. So we are good at it (World titles). It’s good that we carried that legacy forward and hand it over to the future generations.”
It is the consistency that we are really proud of
MS Dhoni also hopes that the new jersey becomes a part of a lot of World Cups. However, he feels more proud of India’s consistency in international cricket.
He concluded, “Hopefully, the (new) jersey becomes a part of a lot of World Cups but it is the consistency that we are really proud of.”
The two-time World Cup champion India is one of the favourite sides in the upcoming World Cup. They will begin their 12th World Cup journey on 5 June against South Africa at Southampton.
