During the early 21st century, the left-handed batsman Sourav Ganguly, who was also a successful Indian captain, and the right-handed legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar were a great partner in the limited-overs cricket.

During this 2001 Paarl ODI, skipper Ganguly settled a solid opening partnership with his partner Tendulkar. They built up the 258 runs partnership for that wicket. While Ganguly scored 111 runs off 124 balls (7 fours and 3 sixes), Tendulkar continued his batting for the little more time as he scored 146 runs off 132 runs (17 fours).

Later, Virender Sehwag also scored a furious fifty (55 not out off 23 balls) as India scored 351/3 (50 overs). India finally won that match by 186 runs after restricting Kenya to 165/5 (50 overs).
