India’s probable 15 member squad for upcoming Zimbabwe tour
The IPL (Indian Premier League) season 9 is going to wrap up and the India’s international cricket is ready to start. We are less than a month away from India’s limited-over series against Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe.
India will play 3-match ODI series and 3-match T20I series against host nation Zimbabwe from 11th June to 22nd June 2016 and all the matches will be played at Harare. India is yet to announce their squad for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour, but it is very clear that the current situation is that most senior cricketers will be kept away from the series.
So surely the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) will make some experiment for the upcoming tour. It is a big chance for BCCI to look at some domestic cricketers who performed well in the recent domestic crickets including IPL.
However, it looks like Ajinkya Rahane will be the captain of the Indian team, especially in ODIs, while he has to fight with Suresh Raina for T20I captaincy, whose recent performance as a captain of Gujarat Lions in IPL has been impressive.
With the recent good performances, Manish Pandey, Robin Uthappa, Kedar Jadhav, Ambati Rayudu are knocking at the door once again. On the other hand, if BCCI targets new faces then they may go with Unmukt Chand, Yuzvendra Chahal etc.
Also, some cricketers, like Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami, may make a comeback in the international squad. All in all, the upcoming selection will be very interesting for Indian cricket.
Last year, India had toured in Zimbabwe for 3-match ODI series and 2-match T20I series under Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy (in both formats). India won the ODI series by 3-0 while they failed to win the T20I series as the series finished level on 1-1.
Probable 15-member squad:
