Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) begins their IPL 2017 journey with a victory against Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) on Saturday at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore.

After winning the toss, KXIP decided to bowl first. RPS put a total of 163/6 at the end of the 1st innings.

In reply, KXIP comfortably chased down that target in 19 overs after losing four wickets. KXIP won their opener of IPL 2017 by six wickets.

  1. RPS batsmen Ben Stokes and Manoj Tiwary put a very important 61 runs partnership for the 5th wicket. It is the highest 5th wicket partnership for RPS. Their previous highest 5th wicket partnership was 44 runs between Thisara Perera and Rajat Bhatia against RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) at Pune on 22nd April 2016.

 

  1. RPS batsman Manoj Tiwary played important innings, as he scored an unbeaten 40 runs in just 23 balls with an impressive strike rate of 173.91. Scoring minimum 25 runs in an innings, it is the highest strike rate by an RPS batsman in an away game (outside of Pune and Visakhapatnam). The previous record holder was Faf du Plessis with a 160.46 strike rate against GL (Gujarat Lions) at Rajkot on 14th April 2016.

 

  1. KXIP batsmen Glenn Maxwell and David Miller put a match-winning unbeaten 79 runs partnership for the 5th wicket. It is the second highest 5th wicket partnership for KXIP. KXIP’s highest 5th wicket partnership is 130* runs between David Miller and Rajagopal Sathish against RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) at Mohali on 6th May 2013.
