On Monday night, Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) clinched an important victory against Gujarat Lions (GL) at Pune. RPS decided to field first after winning the toss. GL were bowled out for 161 runs in 19.5 overs.

In reply, despite RPS losing their top order batsmen in an early stage, they still reached the target in 19.5 overs after losing 5 wickets. RPS won this match by 5 wickets with just 1 ball to spare.

  1. GL were bowled out for 161 runs in 19.5 overs. It is the first time when RPS bundled out their opponent team.

 

  1. RPS left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat bowled very well in this match as his bowling figure was 3.5-0-29-3. It is the best bowling figure by an RPS pacer at their main home ground, Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium (Pune). The previous best bowling figure for an RPS pacer at this venue was 3/34 by Thisara Perera against RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) on 22nd April 2016.

 

  1. RPS batsman Ben Stokes scored a brilliant match-winning century as he remained unbeaten on 103*. Here are some important stats of this brilliant knock:

i) Stokes became the second RPS batsman to score a century. Steven Smith (101) was the first RPS batsman to score a century and that was also against GL at Pune on 29th April 2016.

ii) It is the fourth century in IPL 2017. However, it is the first century in IPL 2017 during a chase.

iii) Ben Stokes scored this century after coming to bat at no.5. Stokes became the third batsman in IPL history who scored a century after coming to bat at no.5. The first two batsmen were: RR batsman Yusuf Pathan (100 against Mumbai Indians at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on 13th March 2010) and KXIP batsman David Miller (101* against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Mohali on 6th May 2013)

 

  1. RPS batsmen Ben Stokes and MS Dhoni put a brilliant 76 runs partnership for the 5th wicket. Here are some important stats of this partnership:

i) It is RPS’ joint highest partnership for any wicket in IPL 2017. Previously, Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Tripathi had put a 76-run partnership for the opening wicket against MI (Mumbai Indians) at Mumbai on 24th April 2017.

ii) Also, it is RPS’ highest runs partnership for 5th wicket. The previous record was 61 runs partnership (for the 5th wicket) between Ben Stokes and Manoj Tiwary against KXIP (Kings XI Punjab) at Indore on 8th April 2017.
