IPL 2017: Match Stats – Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kings XI Punjab

On Monday night, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) beat Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium (Uppal, Hyderabad). KXIP decided to bowl first after winning the toss. In the first innings of the match, KXIP restricted the hosts SRH for 159/6 in 20 overs

In reply, KXIP were bundled out for 154 runs in 19.4 overs. SRH clinched their 3^rd victory in this IPL season by 5 runs.

In overall, David Warner is currently at the fourth position in the most no.of 50+ knocks in IPL history by a batsman for a particular IPL franchise. The top 3 in this list are all Indians and these are: Virat Kohli (31 times 50+ knocks in IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore), Suresh Raina (26 times 50+ knocks in IPL for Chennai Super Kings) and Gautam Gambhir (25 times 50+ knocks in IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders)

 

2. SRH scored 159/6 in the 20 overs. It is the lowest total for SRH against KXIP at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium (Uppal, Hyderabad). Their previous lowest total against KXIP at this ground was 185/5 in 20 overs (according to the completed innings only).

 

3. KXIP wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha was involved in the 4 dismissals (2 catches taken and 2 stumpings made) during the SRH innings. It is the most no.of dismissals involved by a wicket-keeper in an IPL match against SRH. The previous record holder was MS Dhoni for RPS (Rising Pune Supergiants) who had been involved in the 3 dismissals (3 catches taken) during a SRH innings in an IPL match (at Hyderabad, Deccan on 26^th April 2016).

 

4. KXIP batsman Manan Vohra brilliantly batted in this match as he scored a brilliant 95 runs. It is the joint second highest score by a KXIP batsman against SRH (Previously, KXIP batsman Glenn Maxwell had also scored 95 runs against SRH at Sharjah on 22^nd April 2014). The highest runs scorer for KXIP against SRH is Hashim Amla with 96 runs knock at Mohali on 15^th May 2016.

 

5. SRH pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled impressively in this match as his bowling figure was 4-0-19-5. Here are some important stats of this bowling figure:

i) It is the second best bowling figure by an Indian pacer in the IPL history. The record holder is Ishant Sharma (Deccan Chargers) with the bowling figure of 3-0-12-5 (against Kochi Tuskers Kerala at Kochi on 27^th April 2011)

ii) It is the best bowling figure by a SRH bowler. The previous record holder was also Bhuvneshwar Kumar with the bowling figure of 4-0-14-4 against RR (Rajasthan Royals) at Ahmedabad on 8^th May 2014.

iii) Also, it is the second best bowling figure by a bowler in IPL 2017. The record holder is Andrew Tye (Gujarat Lions) with the bowling figure of 4-0-17-5 against RPS (Rising Pune Supergiant) at Rajkot on 14^th April 2017.

iv) Also, it is the joint best bowling figure in the IPL history by a bowler against KXIP. Previously, once KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) off-spinner Sunil Narine had bowled exact the same bowling figure (4-0-19-5) against KXIP at Kolkata on 15^th April 2012.

 

6. In this match, SRH successfully defended their first innings total of 159 runs (159/6 in 20 overs). It is the second lowest successfully defending total by a team in IPL 2017. Currently, the lowest successfully defending total in IPL 2017 is 157 (157/8 in 20 overs) by RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) against DD (Delhi Daredevils) at Bengaluru on 8^th April 2017.
