The newly-appointed skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Dinesh Karthik brushed aside any concern regarding their bowling which had struggled until now in the tournament.
In both their matches against table-toppers, Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, their bowling went for plenty.
At Chepauk Stadium, CSK could not manage to defend a total of above 200. KKR have won one and lost one in the tournament.
“It’s not a concern… [All] the overs that have gone for runs [turned out to be] big overs. So that’s something we need to look into. It’s early days in the tournament, so there’s room for improvement,” suggested Dinesh Karthik according to Cricbuzz.
KKR possessed the likes of Umesh, Coulter-Nile, Chris Woakes and de Grandhomme in their lineup last season.
However, an injured Starc and rusty Johnson meant KKR’s bowling department looks wanting.
Furthermore, the Knight Riders depend heavily on Russell’s all-round skills and haven’t used U19 sensation Kamlesh Nagarkoti as of now.
SRH – one of the better bowling teams in IPL: DK
“Andre Russell [is] bowling at some good heat, he bowls at some good pace, and that’s [a] very good sign for us. [Tom] Curran bowled well considering it was his first game. Mitchell Johnson is there. So we have pace in the kitty. Even [Kamlesh] Nagarkoti is there,” mentions the KKR skipper.
Tom Curran is relatively inexperienced at the IPL level. Even seasoned campaigners such as Vinay Kumar have gone for plenty, unable to defend 16 in the last over against CSK.
KKR host Sunrisers next on Saturday, as Karthik tagged their bowling attack as one of the better lineups.
“They are probably one of the better bowling teams in the tournament. They have good depth in their bowling, and at the same time we are an equally balanced team, so it’s two good teams competing against each other,” concluded Dinesh Karthik.
