ToggleFaf du Plessis, Chennai Super Kings player, has been ruled out of the opening tie of IPL. He is suffering an injury in his finger, this is a reason why he will miss the tie.
Earlier, he was doubtful to play IPL but he was declared fit to participate in the tournament.
“Faf won’t play tomorrow. He’s nursing a couple of injuries he’s had throughout the summer. We think that it’s in his and our best interest to give him a little bit of time to get that right. His finger as well. So, as I say, its little beaten from that series which was tough for them,” Fleming stated.
Although, he needs some time before he makes it to the playing XI.
Du Plessis was retained by Super Kings by the use of Right to Match Card (RTM) for INR 1.60 Crore. He has played a total of 53 IPL games in which he has scored 1295 runs.
The right-handed middle-order batsman Plessis was a permanent member of playing XI in initial years.
However, last year, he could just find a place in playing XI in two games.
This year, Faf du Plessis is expected to play a major part for Chennai-based outfit CSK as soon as he gets fit.
Meanwhile, Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team will open their IPL campaign against Mumbai Indians on Saturday (April 7).
The curtain raiser will be played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Chennai Super Kings are making a comeback in the IPL after serving a two-year ban. The franchise was banned in 2015 and missed IPL 2016 and 2017 respectively.
Along with it, Rajasthan Royals are also making a comeback in the league.
CSK will have to look for a replacement soon if another player is injured.
It is to be noted that the team will miss the services of Mitchell Santner, who is set to miss the coming season. It has not been confirmed whether the team will name his replacement or not.
In case of any further injury, CSK will be in desperate need of a replacement, so as, to choose from the pool of players available.
