This edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has given enough reasons for excitement both on and off the field.

Moreover, this edition saw the introduction of DRS into this league. The cricketers have set the tournament on fire with their outstanding performances.

The likes of Chris Gayle, Kane Williamson, Rashid Khan and others have come good for their franchises. Many Indian cricketers like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Ishan Kishan has also scored runs consistently for their team.

However, many heavyweights failed to live upto the expectations. The team management banked on their ability at the auctions but they suffered miserably.

Let us look at some cricketers who are unlikely to be retained by their franchise in the next season.

The swashbuckling Australian all-rounder has made a name for himself in the shortest format of the game.

His antics in this format compelled Delhi Daredevils to rope him for whopping Rs 9 crore, making him one of their most expensive buys. The franchise hoped to bank on him and end their poor run in the T20 league.

However, Maxwell failed to live upto the expectations as Delhi suffered once again. He has registered only 142 runs from 10 outing and backing it up with five wickets.

Meanwhile, the set-up wanted much more than this and is unlikely to retain him for the next edition of the league.

Kieron Pollard:

Kieron Pollard has been synonyms to Mumbai Indians over the years. The Windies all-rounder has been a regular part of the Mumbai for years now and it would be hard to picture their squad without him.

The franchise expected much out of him, however, he failed to deliver. The giant all-rounder has managed to score only 76 runs from seven outing and eventually lost his place in the playing XI.

As a result, Mumbai will think before retaining for the next edition and maybe he has to change his base cometh the new edition.

David Miller:

David Miller has been an integral part of Kings XI Punjab squad for quite some time now. He has been with this franchise since he made his debut in IPL, however, it is likely that the falling out of love with the big-hitting batsman.

The Proteas star has only played two matches so far and it is likely that he doesn’t fit into the current scheme of things. He hasn’t made any significant contributions and it looks likely that this season will be his final one.

However, Miller has the capability to shift things if any opportunity comes his way in the remaining games.

As per current scenario, it looks unlikely that Miller can expect the Kings XI Punjab to recruit him next year.

Mitchell Johnson:

The speedster from Australia is having a poor time in India and has lost his place in the playing XI. Johnson, considered as one of the quickest bowlers is far from his top form.

So far, he has only six matches and has failed to set the stage on fire. The left-arm pacer has managed to pick only two wickets which have compelled Kolkata to do permutation combination with that place.

Although Johnson is capable of rattling any line-up, Kolkata is unlikely to retain considering his age and recent downslide in form.

Brendon McCullum:

Since his retirement in international cricket, Brendon McCullum is plying his share in T20 franchise cricket. The Kiwi batsman is also a holder of many T20 records.

However, he has failed to show consistency for Bangalore and has lost his place in the playing XI. He has represented RCB in six games so far notching up 127 runs at an average of 21.17, which is below par considering his standards.

However, McCullum has the capability to shift things if any opportunity comes his way in the remaining games.

As per current scenario, it looks unlikely that McCullum can expect his franchise to recruit him next year.
