ToggleIn an unfortunate turn of events, South Africa pace sensation Lungi Ngidi left the Chennai Super Kings camp in India to travel home after the death of his father Jerome Ngidi.
Ngidi senior left the world on Friday morning in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Media reports are suggesting that Jerome suffered complications from a recent back operation.

Titans CEO Jacques Faul confirmed the news.
“I can confirm the sad news and our deepest condolences go to his family and friends. As a cricket family‚ we will assist wherever we can at this difficult time for the family,” he was quoted as saying by Times Live.

Ngidi received his maiden IPL contract after he dismantled India in his debut Test. He had picked up 6 for 39 to set up the victory in front of his delighted parents. Chennai Super Kings had bought him for a great bargain of 50 lakh rupees.
“When he started school at Kloof Junior Primary Lungi began to show interest in everything that has to do with sports,” Jerome had said after witnessing his son’s dream debut.
“He loved rugby, cricket, swimming, hockey, football and athletics. He is a quiet and disciplined boy; he doesn’t like talking that much but he likes his sports.

“He left the other sports codes because his coach at Hilton College advised him to pick one sport and focus on it. He chose cricket. At the age of 15 he started playing for the junior national teams and he started touring countries such as India and England and that’s when we saw that he was going to go far,” he had added.
Super Kings woes deepens:
Chennai Super Kings have made a stunning start to their comeback season. In the first two games, they have beaten two of the most successful teams in the league – Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.
In the season-opener, they beat defending champions Mumbai Indians by 1 wicket. In the following game, they got the better of Knight Riders in a high-scoring thriller. However, their brilliant start to the season has been marred by two huge setbacks.

Their batting mainstay Suresh Raina is ruled out for the next two games with calf injury. On the other hand, Kedar Jadhav is ruled out for the entire season with injury. And Ngidi’s departure will be another setback for them. The right-arm pacer is yet to play a game this season but he could have been an x-factor with the his pace. Super Kings would be hoping that the pacer returns to India as soon as possible.
