Kings XI Punjab returned to the top of the IPL table, as they defeated Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla by four runs.
Kings XI went into the match without the services of Chris Gayle who suffered a sore muscle before the start of the game.
Gayle has played three matches for the Kings and has scored two fifties and a hundred for them. Gayle’s exclusion meant that David Miller got included to the side.
Delhi also made a few changes to their side, as Liam Plunkett, Avesh Khan, Prithvi Shaw, Amit Mishra and Dan Christain were included to the side for the first time on the team sheet.
Punjab had a comparatively slower start, as they lost two wickets in the power-play overs.
Aaron Finch failed once again this time while opening the innings, as he got dismissed for just two runs.
Lokesh Rahul continued his form and scored 23 off just 15 balls while Mayank Agarwal scored 21 off 16 deliveries.
However, Karun Nair was the top scorer for the Punjab-based team, as he scored 34 runs off 32. David Miller also made useful contribution lower down the order with 26 runs. Punjab finished their 20 overs at 143/8.
Liam Plunkett who was making his IPL debut was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets. Avesh Khan and Trent Boult picked up two wickets each as well.
Delhi Daredevils had a shaky start at the top of the order. Prithvi Shaw who looked good with 22 off nine deliveries was clean bowled by Ankit Rajpoot in the third over. They then lost Glenn Maxwell and Gautam Gambhir on 12 and four, respectively in the power play overs.
Delhi was then reduced to 76/5 with Rishabh Pant and Dan Christian back in the pavilion. Shreyas Iyer took the innings till the last over, as he was evenly supported by Rahul Tewatia who was scored 24 off 21 deliveries.
Iyer scored 57 off 45 balls, but his efforts went in vain, as he could not save his team from a fifth defeat in the season.
Andrew Tye and Ankit Rajpoot were the picks of the bowlers for Punjab, as they picked up two wickets each.
Barinder Sran who bowled the 19th over gave away just six runs in the over and gave Mujeeb Rahman 17 runs to defend in the final over.
Punjab eventually won the match by four runs, as Mujeeb gave away 13 runs in the final overs. He eventually picked up two wickets in the match.
Mujeeb has been a find of the tournament. Rishabh Pant was the latest inductee to his victims’ list, as he bamboozled the Delhi batsman and bowled him. Pant was unable to read the carrom ball and lost his wicket.
