Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Delhi Daredevils by 10 runs (DLS method) in a rain-curtailed match to open their account in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

Chasing a revised total of 71 in six overs, Daredevils were off to a horrendous start. Colin Munro was run out on the very first ball of the innings. In the next two overs, Rishabh Pant and Glenn Maxwell could score only 15 runs.

In the following over bowled by Jaydev Unadkat, Maxwell collected 14 runs to keep the chase on track. However, Ben Laughlin dismissed his compatriot in the very next over to dent Delhi’s chances. The equation was finally down to 25 off the last over but Daredevils could only score 14.

Earlier, sent in to bat first, the Royals were off to a disastrous start once again. D’Arcy Short was found well short of his crease, for the second game in a row.

The left-handed batsman from Australia was run out for just six. Ajinkya Rahane and Ben Stokes then took the innings forward.

However, they could add only 17 runs for the second-wicket before the Englishman departed.

With the pitch assisting the pacers, Trent Boult compelled Stokes to edge one behind for 16.

At the end of the powerplay, the Royals huffed and puffed to 51 for two with Rahane and Sanju Samson in the middle.

The duo helped the Royals recover from a shaky start. They added 62 runs for the third-wicket before Shahbaz Nadeem castled Samson for 37.

Resurrected Royals reached the 100-run mark in the 13th over. And just when it seemed, the hosts would up the ante, Nadeem removed Rahane for 45.

However, Rahane’s dismissal did not affect the momentum as Jos Buttler (29 off 18) took charge from there on. However, Mohammed Shami got rid of dangerman Buttler.

Buttler’s quickfire knock provided the much-needed impetus to the Royals’ innings.

Rain interrupted the game when the score was 153 for five in 17.5 overs.

With rain causing a lengthy delay, Rajasthan Royals’ innings was ended at that score and Delhi was given a revised total of 71 in just six overs
