Royal Challengers Bangalore opened their account this season with a thrilling 4-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab. Bowling first, the Royal Challengers bowled out the Kings XI for a modest 155. In reply, they rode AB de Villiers’ calculated fifty to overcome losing wickets at regular intervals to win in the last over.

With the game now over, here is a look at some interesting numbers:

1. Umesh Yadav has now taken a total of 13 wickets in his last five matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. He took 3 for 23 against the Kings XI Punjab.

2. Umesh now has seven man of the match awards in the IPL. These are the most number of player of the match awards for a specialist pacer. Ashish Nehra won six such awards in the IPL.

3. Aaron Finch has now represented seven teams in the IPL and is the first player to do so. Apart from Kings XI, he has plied his trade for Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors India, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Lions in the past.

4.  The win ended AB de Villiers’ 12-match losing streak in the IPL. The last he was part of a winning Royal Challenger playing eleven was in the 2016 Qualifier 1 against Gujarat Lions.

5. Ravichandran Ashwin scored 33 in the game and it is now his highest score in IPL. His previous highest was 29 for Rising Pune Supergiant against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016.

6.  Ravichandran Ashwin’s batting strike-rate of 157.14 during his 21-ball 33 in this game is the highest strike-rate for any captain in an innings in the ongoing season. Kane Williamson scored six runs in four balls against MI at an S/R of 150.
