Delhi Daredevils opened their account this season with a stunning seven-wicket win over defending champions, Mumbai Indians.
Sent in to bat first, Mumbai Indians posted a daunting 194 for seven in the allotted 20 overs. Suryakumar Yadav starred with the bat for the hosts, scoring 53. Evin Lewis and Ishan Kishan also made useful contributions, scoring 48 and 44, respectively.
In reply, Daredevils reached home on the very last ball of the innings. Jason Roy powered them to the win with his unbeaten 53-ball 91 runs knock. Rishabh Pant also played a handy knock of 47 off just 25 balls.
With the game now all done and dusted, here is a look at some interesting numbers:
1. Suryakumar Yadav opened the innings for the first time in his Twenty20 career. He featured in 100 T20s before this game and batted in 83 innings but never had played at the top of the order.
2. Yadav scored his second fifty in his 58-match IPL career so far. It was also his fourth T20 fifty.
3. It was the second instance of Delhi reaching the target on the final ball in an IPL game. They chased down 159 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 on the last ball of the game.
4. The top three batsmen of Mumbai Indians – Surya Kumar Yadav (53), Evin Lewis (48) and Ishan Kishan (44) crossed 40-run mark. It is the first time when the Mumbai’s top three players scored 40 and more in an IPL inning.
5. Mumbai Indians have lost five of their last six IPL games they played at the Wankhede. It is also the 2nd win in seven IPL matches for Delhi Daredevils against MI at the Wankhede. Their last win at the Wankhede had come in 2012.
6. Mumbai Indians’ total of 84 runs in the first six overs are the most they made in the powerplay in the IPL. Their previous best was 82 for one which they had made against Kings XI Punjab last year.
7. The 102-run opening stand between Evin Lewis and Suryakumar Yadav is the 6th-century opening stand for Mumbai Indians and also the first at the Wankhede. Their previous highest opening stand in the IPL at home was 99 which came against Kings XI Punjab last year.
