One of the most popular franchises in the league and two times champions, Kolkata Knight Riders have begun their preparations for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.

The management earlier shocked the fans by choosing Indian wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik as the captain, despite having Robin Uthappa in their squad.

Uthappa was being considered as the most likely option for the captaincy post.
The right-handed batsman has played 58 matches for the Kolkata based franchise and is the most experienced in the Kolkata outfit for the upcoming season.

Karthik, on the other hand, had played for six different IPL franchises in the first ten years of the IPL. It is the first season that he will lead a team in the IPL.
Uthappa had played many roles playing for the KKR side, from being their opening batsman to being a finisher in their batting order. He had also donned the wicket-keeping gloves while playing for the franchise.

However, Uthappa will not be seen donning the wicket-keeping gloves. The availability of Dinesh Karthik in the side has removed the added burden of being the wicket-keeper from Uthappa’s shoulders.
In a press conference, Uthappa said,
“He’s a Test keeper, and I only keep in the IPL, just that would answer your question. I think DK will keep and I’ll go back to you know, dropping my hat to you guys after taking a catch.”
