It’s an end of the road for Delhi Daredevils from the Indian Premier League 2018. They need to wait one more year from now to restart their journey in search of the first-ever championship. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad issued a stern warning by showing that they are capable of chasing the tallies as well.
Delhi Daredevils’ innings: Prithvi Shaw showed his brilliance but SRH pulled it back
Initially, it was Shreyas Iyer who won the toss and asked the home side to roll their arm first. Surprisingly, Glenn Maxwell walked at openers’ slot alongside in-form Prithvi Shaw. But, it was unfortunate for Delhi as Glenn Maxwell walked back to the pavilion after being dismissed in a bizarre fashion.
However, the young sensation, Shaw put on a show at Hyderabad by smacking the opposition bowlers to all corners of the park. Off all, he took Siddarth Kaul to the cleaners to squeeze 20 runs off his first over which was also the last in the powerplay.
He continued his onslaught and was looked like posting a massive total to his name. However, Rashid Khan found top edge of his willow thus pulling the things back on track. Then walks Rishabh Pant who couldn’t find his touch while Shreyas kept the scoreboard ticking. But, none of the batsmen stood till the end thus leaving the onus on Vijay Shankar.
Living up to the expectations, Vijay Shankar smashed a much-needed cameo of 23-run in just 13 balls. He smoked Bhuvneshwar Kumar to 17 runs in the final over to bring the momentum back to Delhi. His late strikes reached Delhi to a competitive 163 runs on the board.
Sunrisers Hyderabad: A record-breaking chase to knock out DD
In reply to the chase, Sunrisers Hyderabad got a steady start in the form of Alex Hales and Shikhar Dhawan who knocked the ball brilliantly to keep the Delhi Daredevils chasing the leather.
However, Amit Mishra showed his charisma by bowling a beauty to Alex Hales and then sent back Shikhar Dhawan. Both wickets brought DD back in the game and the pressure on middle-order started as well.
But, Sunrisers Hyderabad got their best batsman, Kane Williamson at the crease to knock the total as per the required run-rate. However, Manish Pandey once again failed to get them going as his trouble to strike the ball at a greater strike rate put DD on top of the game.
However, when the game was in the pockets of Delhi Daredevils with 28 required off 12 balls on a sticky wicket, the brilliance from Yusuf Pathan changed the complexion of the game as he snatched the victory from Delhi Daredevils with his insane power. Yusuf scored 27* off just 12 balls who escaped a danger of registering a golden duck.
The win ensured Sunrisers Hyderabad to stay at top of the points table with 14 points and a better run-rate in their kitty while Delhi Daredevils are out of contention for a playoff berth. They are placed 7th in the table.
