The Chennai Super Kings have begun their journey in the 11th edition of the tournament in a spanking fashion.
In the first match of the tournament, it was a heroic knock from the blade of Dwayne Bravo who smashed a sensational 68 off 30 deliveries which contained three fours and seven hits over the fence. Chasing a competitive total of 165 in their allotted 20 overs.
Young leg-spinner Mayank Markande bowled a sensational spell in his very first match of the Mumbai Indians. He returned with a magical spell of 3/24 which included the prized wicket of MS Dhoni.
However brilliant innings from Bravo dashed Mumbai’s hopes and gave Chennai their maiden victory. In the next match, it was a brilliant inning from the blade of Sam Billings which helped the yellow brigade chase down the total of 203.
Ambati Rayudu and Shane Watson got them off to a terrific start. However, the duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Sunil Narine stemmed the run flow in the middle overs. Just when Kolkata looked like running away with the game, the Englishman Billings smashed five sixes and a couple of fours en route to his 56 off 22 deliveries which changed the complexion of the game.
However, he was dismissed with 19 still required. 17 runs were eventually required of the final over and Vinay Kumar was handed over the ball by Dinesh Karthik. He bowled a waist height no ball to begin which went sailing over the fence for a big six of the blade of Dwayne Bravo. He added a couple in the free hit delivery.
Vinay came back strongly to conceded only three runs in the next two deliveries. With four required off the last 2, Ravindra Jadeja who looked out of touch smashed a huge six, and the ball went sailing over the long-on fence. It was a well-fought contest and Chennai was overjoyed with the victory.
Following their victory, the Chennai players, Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja were seen enjoying their time in the flight.
