AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli, two star-players of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), are happy with their IPL 2019 finish with a fantastic victory.
RCB had a poor start in the IPL 2019. They faced their worst-ever start in an IPL season as they suffered defeats in their all first six matches of this season. However, in the end, they made a great comeback as they won four out of the last six matches (lost one and one had no result). They were just one or two victories behind from the playoffs spot. At the end of their latest IPL season, RCB earned 11 points in 14 matches.
Although they had no chance to qualify for the playoffs, RCB was desperate to win their last match of IPL 2019. On Saturday (4th May) night, they played that match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Bengaluru.
After SRH managed to score 175/7 (20 overs) in the first innings, RCB had a poor start. Openers Parthiv Patel (0) and the skipper Virat Kohli (16) both lost their wickets cheaply. The no.3 batsman AB de Villiers also departed soon after scoring just one run.
While RCB was battling on 20/3, Shimron Hetmyer and Gurkeerat Singh played two crucial innings. Hetmyer scored 75 runs off 47 balls while Gurkeerat also played a brilliant innings of 65 runs off 48 balls. They had an incredible 144-run partnership for the fourth wicket that helped RCB to win that match. Though both those batsmen lost their wickets, RCB chased down that target in 19.2 overs after losing six wickets.
AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli are happy with their finish in IPL 2019
AB de Villiers and the RCB skipper Virat Kohli both are very happy with their finish in this IPL season. Both believe that RCB will perform better in the next IPL season.
After their final match of this season, AB thanked everyone for the support.
AB told RCB’s 12thMan TV, “It’s a fantastic way to finish. Very sad to see that we were one win away from possibly making it to the knockouts. Crazy to see how close the margins are in this tournament. But it was a nice way to finish, there was a lot of talent we discovered this year.
“Looking forward to next season, just want to thank everyone at the Chinnaswamy and the RCBians for supporting us through thick and thin.”
RCB skipper Virat Kohli also said that they didn’t feel it was a bad season despite losing their first six matches in a row. He further added that they would need to start well in the next season. However, he is confident of qualifying for the playoffs in the next IPL season.
RCB captain also praised Hetmyer and Gurkeerat for their impressive batting in their last match of IPL 2019.
