Following an injury scare, South African speedster has undergone scans which have been forwarded to the Cricket South Africa (CSA). According, to the recent reports, CSA will decide regarding Rabada’s ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2019) future.
On May 1st, Rabada has missed the first game of the season against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after feeling discomfort in his back.
It is pertinent to point out that Rabada has been the Purple Cap holder with 25 scalps in 12 matches. The 23-year-old right-arm pacer has bagged two four-fors in this edition. He’s followed by CSK’s Imran Tahir, who has snared 21 wickets in 13 games.
Rabada has conceded 368 runs off 282 balls so far in the twelfth edition of the domestic professional T20 league.
Now, with World Cup kicking off within four weeks times, CSA would not want to receive a shocker. Over the years, Rabada has been a prominent face in the Proteas squad.
Rabada faces a back issue:
According to Capitals’ official, Rabada has complained of a back problem. The official added it makes no sense to put him in danger. The official admitted the fact that the World Cup is around the corner.
“He has had an issue with his back and there is no point in risking him. We as a franchise also respect the fact that this is the year of the World Cup,” the official told IANS.
Furthermore, an official in the know to the recent developments revealed the tests had been conducted before the reports were sent to the Proteas cricket board. The official added CSA would take a call regarding Rabada’s participation in the cash-rich league.
CSA will look at the reports:
However, if Rabada will be rested for the remainder of the IPL, it will be a massive blow for resurgent Delhi during the playoffs. Recently, Capitals had lost their game by 80 runs after being bundled out for 99 in 16.2 overs when they were chasing 179.
“He just complained of discomfort and we got all the tests done. Because we don’t wish to take a chance with any of our players. With the World Cup around the corner, even CSA got in touch with us. We spoke to them and have now sent them the reports. They will check the reports and get back to us on how to go about Rabada’s participation in the IPL,” an official inferred.
Recently, Capitals under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer has made to the playoffs for the first time after a prolonged gap of seven years since 2012.
