IPL 2019: It Was Important That I Batted Till the End – Suryakumar Yadav
Mumbai Indians number three batsman Suryakumar Yadav was getting off to starts in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. However, the right-hander was not able to convert his starts into a substantial score. Meanwhile, when the stage was big, Yadav came up with a fine knock of 71 runs off just 54 balls with the help of 10 fours.
Suryakumar Yadav batted with maturity as he didn’t play a lot of shots in the air. In fact, the right-hander had the rub of the green on his side as his catch was fluffed by Murali Vijay at mid-on in the fifth over of the innings. However, there was no pressure of required run-rate as CSK had only 131 runs in the bank and Yadav took his time to get going in the innings. Thus, it was a fine knock from the right-hander as he helped his team book their IPL 2019 final berth.
It was a matured innings from Yadav.
Suryakumar Yadav said while talking to the host broadcaster in the post-match presentation, “Was very important for someone in the top three or four to bat till the end because the wicket was slow and turning. After first innings I saw what happened, not too many players were able to hit the shots in the air. So I wanted to play down the ground, pick singles and doubles. Had the chat after the first innings that someone from the top-order will have to play towards the end because it won’t be easy for players coming in later”.
Earlier in the innings, the Mumbai Indians spinners held a stranglehold on the Chennai batsmen. Rahul Chahar bowled brilliantly and scalped two wickets to give away only 14 runs in his four overs quota. CSK could only get to 131 runs after winning the toss and deciding to bat first.
Chennai Super Kings could never get the momentum going in their innings. They had added 32 runs in the powerplay overs and lost three wickets. Subsequently, they were always playing the catch-up game. Then, Suryakumar Yadav came up with a fine knock.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians will now travel to Hyderabad for the final of the season which will take place on 12th May at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings will play the winners of the Eliminator contest between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad at Visakhapatnam.
