IPL 2019: It Was Our Game – CSK Off-Spinner Harbhajan Singh About The Final Match
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) off-spinner Harbhajan Singh feels that CSK should chase the 150 runs target against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the final of IPL 2019. He believes that it was their game.
On last Sunday (12th May) night, MI and the defending champions CSK met in the final of IPL 2019 at Hyderabad. As both won the record three IPL trophies before that final, the winner of that match would be the new record holder with four IPL trophies.
After winning the toss in the IPL 2019 final, MI captain Rohit Sharma decided to bat first. However, MI batsmen struggled against CSK bowlers as they lost the wickets at regular intervals. With the help of Kieron Pollard‘s impressive unbeaten 41 runs off 25 balls, MI managed to score 149/8 (20 overs) in the first innings.
CSK off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who had the bowling figures of 4-0-27-0 in that match, believed that they would chase that 150 runs target. CSK also had a decent start in the second innings before they started to lose the wickets. Despite Shane Watson‘s heroic 80 runs, CSK was just one run short from MI’s first innings total. CSK managed to score 148/7 in 20 overs.
From the fans’ point of view, it was kind of a paisa vasool match – Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh feels that it was the best final for the fans, but he also believes that they should win that final.
He recently told India Today, “From the fans’ point of view, it was kind of a paisa vasool match but for us it was heartbreaking. Getting MI out for 149, chasing 150 in Hyderabad on that pitch, I thought we had the match. We had a good start upfront but we lost wickets. I still feel why this happened to us. It was our game. But we have to accept the fact that MI are winners but it was our game.”
We would have liked MS Dhoni’s decision to go in our way – Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan believes that CSK captain MS Dhoni‘s doubtful run-out decision was the major turning point of that match. Dhoni lost his wicket through a run-out after scoring just two runs off eight balls. However, it was a doubtful decision as two different angels were suggesting two opposite decisions.
Harbhajan said about that, “We would have liked MS Dhoni’s decision to go in our way. If you see, the angles…from one end it looked out, from one end he looked to have made it. It was tough decision to make. A lot of times it’s been said that the decision should be given in batsman’s favour. In Dhoni’s case, it wasn’t given. I think it’s one of the key points where the game drifted away from us.”
Harbhajan further added that they didn’t build enough partnership in that second innings. However, he didn’t forget to appreciate Shane Watson’s outstanding effort in that final.
He added, “Apart from that, I didn’t think we built enough partnerships. Watson almost pulled a miracle for us. But it wasn’t enough. Even after MS Dhoni got out, we came so close.. Shane Watson brought us really close.”
In IPL 2019, MI and CSK met four times, and MI won all those matches.
