IPL 2019: Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya to Pose Challenge for the CSK – Vivian Richards
Windies legend Vivian Richards has hailed Caribbean all-rounder Kieron Pollard and exciting Team India prospect Hardik Pandya. Pertinently, the duo is partaking in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2019) for its franchise Mumbai Indians (MI). He believes both players could pose a stiff challenge to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the finale.
“They (Mumbai) have been a very composed side. Both these teams are three-time IPL champions and both don’t usually play around with their winning formulas. I think we are in for a very intriguing final,” Richards wrote in his column for the ToI.
Pandya and Pollard, to seal show?
Pandya, who had played a significant role with the bat and ball in the IPL 2019, is capable of going hard against opposition alongside Pollard. While thinking on similar lines, the batting start Richards reiterated the duo is capable taking the bowlers to the cleaners.
“Kieron Pollard has put on some proper power shows and so has Hardik Pandya and they will represent the biggest challenge for the CSK bowlers because batsmen like these can mess up your bowling lengths,” Richards wrote.
Meanwhile, batting star Richards is looking forward for an enticing grand finale between Mumbai and the Super Kings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on May 12.
Earlier, both teams have finished as the table toppers. Interestingly, both sides are known as slow-starters.
According to Richards, Indians were pretty solid in terms of consistency. He added the middle-order batsman has had contributed in a bid to cover up their top-order batsmen.
“MI have bowlers who have been very consistent this season and a middle order that has often made up for any top order troubles,” Richards wrote further.
Vivian Richards heaps praise on Suryakumar:
Apart from the all-rounders, the 67-year-old Richards maintained Suryakumar Yadav has impressed one and all. He added the cool head has emerged as a saviour for Indians’ camp with solid technique.
Suryakumar is the second leading run-getter for the Indians in the IPL 2019. He has amassed 409 runs in 14 innings at an average of 34.08. Suryakumar has scored runs at the strike-rate of 133.22 in this season.
“Another player who has caught my eye is Suryakumar Yadav. He has a great technique and goes about his job without any fuss. That kind of a calming influence in the middle can be vital even in the chaos of a T20 game and that is why I think MI have done so well this season,” Richards asserted.
In conclusion, Richard remarked that CSK and Indians had been consistent teams in the IPL history. So far Mumbai has won two titles while taking on CSK in three finals so far.
