IPL 2019: Kolkata Knight Riders’ Spin Bowling Coach Carl Crowe is Eager to Work with Kuldeep Yadav, Piyush Chawla

Ahead of the kick-off of the season 12 of Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkata Knight Riders’ spin bowling consultant is too keen to work alongside Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav and senior campaigner Piyush Chawla in the cash-rich league. He sees Kuldeep as a player to watch out for in the IPL 2019.

Former English off-spinner Crowe has hailed youngster Kuldeep for being courageous and effective with his accuracy. He added the wrist-spinner maintains his calmness even if he is being attacked from the batsman. However, Kuldeep has often shown promise by making a strong comeback.

Among 13 retained players, Kuldeep and Chawla have formed a strong core. It subsequently, helps the Kolkata-based franchise to rely on a strong pool of spin bowlers.

Last year, in the eleventh edition of IPL, Knight Riders finished third on the points table. Dinesh Karith-led side has won eight games while losing out on six in the previous edition.

Crowe reiterated that KKR has one of the prominent spin attacks at the helm for the impending edition of IPL. He is hopeful to see the mixture on youth will be quite impactful against distinct oppositions.

Furthermore, the 43-year-old Leicestershire-born Crowe believes it’s the placidity that serves as an advantage for any of the spinner. And Kuldeep has brought that to the table which serves as an added advantage for the team in a nutshell.

“Kuldeep has a big heart. He is prepared to get hit and remains calm all the time. People talk about mystery spin but what we don’t focus on is his calmness… That’s a big advantage for a spinner.”

While reflecting on Kuldeep, Crowe thinks on different lines when it comes to the advantage of wrist-spinners.

Crowe added if a slow bowler is able to give spin both ways it will serve a threat for the opponents.

Banking on his experience, Crowe reiterated by going such an advantage, it’s all serving for the cause of T20 fold.

“From my perspective if you get to spin the ball both ways, you are a threat. If you are spinning the ball both ways and creating a doubt in the batsman’s mind, that’s the key to T20 cricket,” Crowe inferred.

The 30-year-old Chawla, who’s an integral part of two-time IPL champions Knight Riders, has overall featured in 144 matches. Since the 2010 IPL edition, Chawla has bagged 140 wickets at an average of 26.23.

On the other side, Kuldeep, who’s relatively younger has made his IPL debut in 2016. He has bagged 35 scalps in 35 outings at an average of 24.51.

Thus, Knight Riders will begin their campaign a day after the kick-off of the IPL 2019. The Kolkata-based franchise will take on last year’s runners-up Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the historic Eden Gardens stadium.
