IPL 2019: Krishnappa Gowtham Reveals RR Has a Gameplan to Tackle Andre Russell
As we are a few hours away from the Rajasthan Royals (RR) vs Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) contest, hosts all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham, revealed they’ve chalked out a plan against in-form Andre Russell, to keep him quiet during the match number 21st of the ongoing IPL 2019 season in Jaipur.
The 30-year-old Gowtham, who is an off-spinner, has issued a warning to Russell ahead of the doubleheader on Sunday (April 7).
But, himself, Gowtham’s form is a bit of concern for Royals’ camp. He has managed a solitary wicket in four matches.
“Yes, I would like to showcase my talent (with the bat) if I get an opportunity but with top order performing so well I don’t think they need that much of hitting power,” Gowtham told PTI.
Russell has stolen the show so far. He has been doing meticulous for the Knight Riders.
However, Gowtham is hopeful regarding the team’s strategy to work in their favour at the earliest.
“He has been in very good form. He has been hitting a lot of sixes and he is doing well for his team. We do have a plan set for him and hopefully it comes out,” Gowtham added.
Meanwhile, the right-handed hard-hitting batsman Russell has accumulated 207 runs in four outings at an outstanding strike-rate of 268.83.
Concurrently, he is third on the list of leading run-getters in the ongoing twelfth edition of the IPL.
IPL 2019: Andre Russell is a threat for Royals:
The Windies swashbuckling batsman has thrashed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bowlers by slamming 48 off just 13 deliveries. His whirlwind knock included as many as seven. Besides, he battered Tim Southee with four maximums in a single over.
Since starting off his season in style, Russell had played a significant knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 24.
However, he continued his domination by thrashing the bowlers all-around the park.
Following a jittery start, Royals managed a lone victory against the RCB. The Ajinkya Rahane-led team is listed seventh on the IPL points table. Overall, they have played overall four games since their game against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on March 25 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Gowtham is keen to continue their momentum by winning their game against KKR. He believes the team has regrouped and is doing well, of late. He added the players have given their best against Virat Kohli‘s RCB.
“We have played together for long and have a good repo. We talk about the wicket and conditions often,” Gowtham stated.
While hinting at their failure particularly for failing to finish games, Gowtham believes they have learnt their lessons.
“Yes we were having certain hiccups but we are peaking at the right time and doing well. In the last game against RCB, everything came out really well. We want to carry on the winning momentum. It was not that we had bowled badly but it was just that we couldn’t come out at the crucial time and we couldn’t perform. It’s just that,” Gowtham inferred.
Meanwhile, Gowtham is keen to showcase his skills with the bat in hand against the high-flying KKR.
