IPL 2019: KXIP Head Coach Mike Hesson Defends Injured Ankit Rajpoot
Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) fast bowler Ankit Rajpoot had a terrific season last year in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Unfortunately, he has picked an injury in the IPL 2019. Punjab coach Mike Hesson revealed Rajpoot has split webbing.
Thus, it means the 25-year-old Kanpur-based medium pacer Rajpoot will take some time to return to the fold.
“Ankit got a split webbing which is going to take a bit of time to recover,” ToI quoted Hesson as saying.
In 2018, Rajpoot featured in just eight matches to bag 11 scalps at an exceptional average of 20.27.
Earlier, Rajpoot was the part of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Since 2013, Rajpoot has bagged 22 wickets in 22 matches at an average of 25.86.
The 44-year-old Hesson stated injuries are the part and parcel. He added they’re ready for such challenges in the impending time.
“These sort of injuries keep reoccurring, so we obviously look after that,” Hesson added.

On April 10, Rajpoot has failed to defend 17 runs off Mumbai Indians’ (MI) final over. However, Hesson has backed the youngster. He added Rajpoot has bowled remarkably well against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Hesson reiterated the injury has spoiled Rajpoot’s party adding the latter has bowled quite well. The experienced coach stated it’s all about what is written in your fate on a particular day.
“Ankit is an experienced campaigner. The way he bowled against Sunrisers Hyderabad was exceptional. In Mumbai, he came back to bowl the final over but the injury didn’t help him. He bowled that over really well but if you have to put your hand up to do the job, you may have some good days and bad too,” Hesson further added.
So far in the IPL 12, Rajpoot has featured in three matches.
He managed to pick three wickets under his belt with a tournament in a mid-way.
While speaking about the workload of players, Hesson stated it’s important to manage the load well in the length tournament like IPL.
It becomes pertinent that the schedule is cramped up a bit. It further saw players facing a tough time on the road from time to time. He added a couple of players have picked niggle apart from the fever chills.
“Getting through three games in five days has been a challenge, especially with the travel. There is no doubt that the players are put under a bit of stress from a travel point of view. We have got a few niggles in the group and a bit of fever and cold in bits and pieces just from the travelling,” Hesson inferred.
So far, KXIP side had enjoyed a good time in the IPL 2019. They have won four out of seven games to maintain the fourth spot. On Saturday (April 13) evening, KXIP will take on Virat Kohli’s RCB at PCA IS Bindra Stadium.
