IPL 2019: Match 12, CSK vs RR – Chepauk Has Been the Worst Condition I Have Bowled In – Jofra Archer
Rajasthan Royals fast bowler Jofra Archer slammed the Chepauk wicket after a late resurgence from MS Dhoni helped Chennai Super Kings post 175 runs at the end of 20 overs.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals got off to a good start after Ajinkya Rahane elected to bowl first. They removed both the openers within four overs with Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes sharing one wicket each. Kedar Jadhav also followed suit as Chennai Super Kings were reeling at 27 for three. Since then MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina added 61 runs to the bail their side out of danger. They initially took some time as the wicket behaved abnormally with few balls stopping before coming to the batsmen. They relied mostly on ones and two’s while the odd boundaries kept coming. However, Jaydev Unadkat struck against the run of play to dismiss Suresh Raina to bring the Royals back in the game.
But MS Dhoni-led and an onslaught in the last five overs to help his side post 175 runs. The former India skipper remained unbeaten on 75 runs from 46 deliveries including four boundaries and sixes each. Moreover, he took Jaydev Unadkat for 28 runs in the last over to finish the innings on a high. Jofra Archer was the pick of the bowlers for Rajasthan returning with two for 17 in four overs.
However, speaking at the end of the innings, Archer said that it is the worst wicket he has ever played in. He also mentioned that it was tough gripping the ball as it was getting wet. Also, he added that he has experienced these conditions in Bangladesh but hasn’t prepared himself for this wickets.
Here is what Jofra Archer said,
Honestly it has been the worst conditions I have bowled in. It is very very hard and challenging with the amount of dew. The ball has been wet for 8-9 overs the seam is slimy and then the new hard ball went the distance. We played here yesterday and there was a lot more dew, but there is still a lot of dew getting onto the ball. It is very hard to bowl yorkers and to bowl full. I have experienced such conditions once in Bangladesh, but no, I haven’t trained for conditions like these.
