IPL 2019, Match 29: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Chennai Super Kings – Match Prediction

It’s definitely going to be one of the marquee clashes of the ongoing IPL 2019 when hosts Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will take on the reigning champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday (April 14) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Before the much-awaited match prediction, there plenty of action to unfold in the next 20-odd hours.

Currently, CSK has bagged 12 points with six wins in seven games. On the other hand, KKR has bagged eight points in seven matches. They went on to win four games while losing their both games against Delhi Capitals (DC) at home and away.

Earlier, CSK has thrashed KKR by seven wickets and 16 balls to spare on April 9 at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.

The hosts will be up for the sweet revenge.

Batting first, KKR was steamrolled by hosts with Deepak Chahar bagging three wickets after conceding just 20 runs in four overs.

Besides, the spinners have bowled remarkably well. Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir have shared two wickets each.

CSK had won their moments by struggling in between. However, their positives came through the contribution of skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni himself.

For KKR, the good news is that Andre Russell has continued his domination despite his team going somewhat off the radar.

The worrying factor for the hosts KKR would be their bowling line-up which has failed to defend the totals on a longer run. Prasidh Krishna and Lockie Ferguson must pull up their socks against a dominant force of the IPL.

Anyway, it’s going to be an enticing game between two top-class teams of the IPL. Over the years, both teams emerged consistently which has further won them the massive pool of fans.

Predicted Playing XI:

Kolkata Knight Riders:

Dinesh Karthik (c & wk), Joe Denly, Shubman Gill, Piyush Chawla, Robin Uthappa, Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Rana,  and Prasidh Krishna, Lockie Ferguson

Chennai Super Kings:

MS Dhoni (c & wk), Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Kedar Jadhav, Ambati Rayudu, Imran Tahir, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur.

Head-to-Head:

In overall 19 matches, CSK has won 12 games, whereas, KKR has crossed the line in seven games.

At Eden Gardens, both teams faced each other in eight games. However, they share an equal number of victories at the historic venues.

Pitch Report:

By going to the norm of Eden, it has been evident that the surface has helped the seamers. While considering the previous game against Delhi Capitals, hosts were well 20 runs short.

Overall, the pitch has helped the batters who further made most of the conditions in the T20 fold.

We could expect a run-fest at the Eden Gardens with both teams hosting some powerful hitters of the cricketing ball.

Weather Forecast:

It’s going to be another scorching day at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The maximum temperature would be around 36-degree centigrade, whereas, the minimum temperature will be 26 degrees Celcius.

Also, the humidity would be 67 per cent which would somewhat leave an impact in the evening.

Although, the early game won’t bother the team fielding second.

Match Prediction:

It might appear as a fortress for the Knight Riders but they’re facing the table-toppers CSK. With things getting a bit tricky, however, the visitors have been playing high-quality cricket despite eking a last-ball win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur.

Without any iota of doubt, we could expect a high-scoring contest in Kolkata.

While considering strength on paper and the previous results, we expect CSK to cruise on April 14.

The first innings projected score would be 180-190. The team winning the toss would opt to bowl first despite an early game.
