IPL 2019: Match 54 – RCB vs SRH – Match Report, Turning Point of the Match, Scorecard
Royal Challengers Bangalore gave a big blow to Sunrisers Hyderabad’s playoff hopes as the hosts defeated the visitors by four wickets. RCB captain Virat Kohli finally had the toss luck on his side as he won the coin battle and elected to field first.
Turning Point of the Match:
Royal Challengers Bangalore were 20-3 and thus had their backs against the wall. However, Shimron Hetymer and Gurkeerat Mann Singh added a gargantuan alliance of 144 runs to get their team back on track.
RCB vs SRH – Royal Challengers Bangalore Innings:
The hosts got off to a worse possible start as they lost their top three run-getters – Parthiv Patel, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers – of the season early. Parthiv Patel got a top edge and it was safely taken by SRH best fielder – Manish Pandey. RCB skipper Virat Kohli started his innings in the top gear, however, Khaleel Ahmed put paid to Kohli’s innings. The southpaw seamer banged in shortly after he noticed Kohli advancing down the track. Thus, he was able to extract the outside edge of the skipper. Subsequently, AB de Villiers was caught at wide first slip by Martin Guptill when Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a perfect length bowl – to push the hosts behind the eighth ball.
Hetmyer and Singh played fine knocks.
With AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli back in the dressing room, SRH had put their noses in front. However, Shimron Hetmyer was able to keep the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the hunt. Hetmyer brought his maiden fifty of the season off just 32 balls and celebrated it a hand fist.
However, the southpaw batsman had the rub off the green when Manish Pandey could not hold on to a difficult chance at the boundary ropes. In fact, SRH had another chance to send back the Caribbean batsman but Yusuf Pathan fluffed a simple chance at point. Thus, the visitors were sloppy in the field.
Gurkeerat Mann Singh also gave good support to Hetmyer as the right-hander scored his maiden IPL fifty of the season. The left-handed, right-handed pair completed their century stand of 67 balls. Hetymer scored a fine knock of 75 runs off just 47 balls with the help of four fours and half-a-dozen sixes.
RCB vs SRH – Sunrisers Hyderabad innings:
The visitors got off to a flying start as both Wriddhiman Saha and Martin Guptill was able to hit the ground running. In fact, Saha was dropped by Yuzvendra Chahal when he was on six, at deep square leg position on the bowling of Umesh Yadav. Subsequently, Chahal was welcomed to the crease with three consecutive boundaries by Saha and it looked like the drop could be costlier.
However, Navdeep Saini accounted for the wicketkeeper-batsman as Saha innings was put paid after he got a bottom edge to mid-on. Subsequently, Washington Sundar bowled a two-wicket opening over as he scalped Martin Guptill and in-form Manish Pandey.
New Zealand batsman was dismissed off an innocuous delivery as he gave a simple catch to Virat Kohli. Furthermore, Manish Pandey had to walk back to the dugout after Shimron Hetmyer took a good low catch at deep square leg.
Vijay Shankar got off to another start but failed to convert it into a big score after scoring 27 runs. In fact, the right-hander had got two sixes against Washington Sundar but could not connect the hat-trick six and got a top edge – which ballooned to Colin Grandhomme.
Williamson got back into form.
Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson was able to get back into form at the right time. Williamson scored his maiden fifty of the season as he got Hyderabad to a fighting score of 175. Williamson was able to add oomph to his team’s innings when the tourists got 28 runs from the last over of innings bowled by Umesh Yadav. Thus, the visitors were able to get the impetus in their innings.
Sundar bowled beautifully.
On the other hand, Washington Sundar scalped three wickets whereas Navdeep Saini took two wickets. Furthermore, Kulwant Khejroliya and Yuzvendra Chahal snared one wicket each.
