During Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) terrible batting performance in the opening game of IPL 2019, the RCB opener Parthiv Patel created an IPL history.

The IPL 2019 began on Saturday (23rd March) when the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) met against RCB at MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai). Both teams were looking for a good start in the new season, but RCB entirely failed in that game.

After winning the toss in the opening game of IPL 2019, the CSK captain MS Dhoni decided to field first. The CSK spinners dominated over the visiting batsmen and the host side bundled out RCB for just 70 runs in 17.1 overs.

Apart from Parthiv Patel, no other RCB batsmen reached the double-digit mark in that innings. The left-handed opening batsman Parthiv Patel scored 29 runs off 35 balls with the help of two fours. He fought till the end of that innings as he was the last batsman to get out.

The 34-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman had partnerships with all ten teammates in that game. It was the first time in IPL history when a batsman shared partnerships with all ten teammates in an innings.

Parthiv Patel was very close to becoming the first IPL batsman to carry the bat through a completed innings.

Previously, eight incidents happened in IPL history when a batsman shared partnerships with nine teammates in an innings.

RCB’s 70 was the lowest completed total for any team against CSK. The previous lowest was 83 (17.3 overs) by Delhi Daredevils at Delhi on 18th April 2013.

Also, it was RCB’s joint second lowest completed total. Meanwhile, it was also the joint sixth lowest completed total in IPL history.

CSK comfortably won the game

In reply, CSK comfortably chased that small target in 17.4 overs after losing three wickets. The opener Shane Watson failed to open his account but another opener Ambati Rayudu guided for a safe start with the no.3 batsman Suresh Raina.

In the same game, Suresh Raina completed his 5,000 IPL runs and became the first player to achieve this feat. However, soon after that achievement, Suresh Raina lost his wicket for 19 runs. Meanwhile, Ambati Rayudu scored 28 runs off 42 balls before losing his wicket.

Kedar Jadhav and Ravindra Jadeja didn’t make any further mistakes and guided the home side for an easy victory. Kedar Jadhav remained not out on 13 runs while Ravindra Jadeja scored unbeaten six runs.

CSK off-spinner Harbhajan Singh won the Player of the Match award for his brilliant bowling performance. He had the bowling figures of 4-0-20-3. Meanwhile, Imran Tahir also took three wickets while Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo picked up two and one wickets respectively.
