Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) batting star Sanju Samson is somewhat disappointed with the way things have had panned out for his team in the ongoing IPL 2019 edition. While looking down the barrel, Royals road to the Playoffs looks almost over. Thus, Samson is thinking on similar lines, adding it’s has gone further tougher for the Jaipur-based franchise.

Samson’s statement came after visiting team Delhi Capitals (DC) won the game by six wickets at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday night (April 22).

The solid-looking batsman has garnered 239 runs in eight matches which further included a fine ton against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

So far, Royals have played 10 matches to bag six points. They are sitting seventh on the points table even though giving a scare to opponents during the tourney.

Samson spoke about Playoff chances:

Overall, RR lost seven games in which three came in the last five games, Samson admitted the fact that they’re dependent on the results of other teams too. He added Royals would’ve been in contention had they won their all five games.

“It is a very tough chance now. I think we have to look at other teams now. We had a chance had we won all five games. But now,

I think we have to look at the other teams,” Samson said during a press conference in Jaipur.

Following an unbeaten hundred from their former skipper Ajinkya Rahane, the hosts put up 193 for four on the scoreboard in 20 allotted overs.

However, Capitals rode on a 72-run stand between Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan before Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 78 off 36 balls saw guests home in 19.2 overs.

“Having a batsman like Shikhar Dhawan in Delhi, and in the form he is, he took the Power Play from us and Rishabh Pant came and did the job for them,” Samson said on Capitals’ run chase.

In conclusion, Samson said the wicket was quite satisfying for the batters. However, he noticed the surface was doing a bit in the powerplay overs.

“It was a good wicket to start with, it was a decent wicket. Think in the first innings, in the Power Play, the wicket was holding up a bit. But as the dew came it became much easier to bat on in the second innings,” Samson concluded.

With a recent win, Capitals moved to the top of the IPL 2019 points table. Shreyas Iyer-led side has now won seven matches out of 11.

Meanwhile, Royals will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 25.
