Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) leg-spinner Rashid Khan returned with three wickets as they beat Kings XI Punjab by 45 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. However, Hyderabad will receive a massive blow as David Warner will leave the tournament t link with the Australia team for the ICC World Cup. The Afghanistan spinner hailed Warner and admitted that they will miss him in Hyderabad camp.
Batting first, Hyderabad posted 212 runs after another swashbuckling knock from David Warner. He scored 81 runs with contributions from Wriddhiman Saha and Manish Pandey to lay a strong base. But Punjab bounced back to contain Punjab for just 212 runs. However, in reply, Punjab failed to stitch a significant partnership as they lost wickets from one while KL Rahul stood tall from the other end. He finally got out in the 19th over as Kings XI Punjab could only manage 167 runs, falling short by 45 runs.
Rashid Khan, who has not been among the wickets this season, revealed that he changed his line and length in this game and got the result. He also credited his batsmen for putting up a 200+ score. Overall, the young leg-spinner said it was a great team effort.
“I took three wickets today and I was trying to be economical initially. Overall happy as it was a good team effort. It was a 175-180 kind of wicket so credit to our batsmen who did the job by getting 200-plus. In the previous games, I was bowling very full and hence I was punished. I had a chat with the coaching staff. I just tried to hit the good length areas in this match,” Rashid said after the end of the match.
Rashid was full of praise for Warner
The exodus of the overseas cricketers have already begun, and David Warner will leave the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp to join the Australia team. The southpaw leaves the tournament as the highest runscorer with 692 runs from 12 matches at an average of 69.20 with one hundred and eight half-centuries. Rashid Khan hailed Warner saying that it was amazing to see the way Warner batted.
He also wished the devastating opener for the World Cup and is hopeful that they will find a replacement for him for the remainder of the tournament.
“The way Warner played throughout the tournament was really amazing, we will miss him. Wish him best luck for the World Cup. Pleased that he’s leaving on a winning note. Hopefully, the other guys in our team fill in his place and recover that area,” he concluded.
