Chennai Super Kings banked on their skipper MS Dhoni to guide them to winning ways beating Delhi Capitals by 80 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. As a result, Chennai leapfrogs Delhi to go to the top of the points table.
Meanwhile, Chennai didn’t had a great start after Shreyas Iyer asked him to bat first. They lost Shane Watson early but Suresh Raina and Faf du Plessis combined well to bail their team out. They were slow and focused more on rotating the strike as they could manage only 53 runs from the first ten overs. Faf du Plessis tried to up the ante but Axar Patel got the better of him. Raina followed the pack soon but before that, he played a handy knock of 59 runs.
MS Dhoni played the masterstroke of promoting himself and Ravindra Jadeja up in the order. The duo took on the Delhi Capitals bowlers as the runs started coming by. Although Jadeja got out (25 off 10), Dhoni continued with his onslaught. He middled the balls brilliantly to take the Delhi bowlers to cleaners to post 179 runs at the end of 20 overs. Dhoni remained unbeaten on 44 runs from 22 deliveries including four boundaries and three massive sixes.
Chris Morris, meanwhile, in the 18th over, bowled a devastating beamer to MS Dhoni. It was a full-toss delivery over the waist which hurried to the batsman. Although he was taken by surprise, he kept his composure to dispatch it over the short fine-leg fielder for a six. Morris soon came to Dhoni to apologise as the senior cricketer acknowledged it as both of them upheld the spirit of the game.

Chennai Super Kings defended the target brilliantly. Imran Tahir led the attack as Ravindra Jadeja gave good support. Tahir returned with four wickets while Jadeja bagged three after his swashbuckling knock. Harbhajan Singh and Deepak Chahar also picked one wicket each. However, it was MS Dhoni’s lightning-quick hands that got the better of Shreyas Iyer which turned the fate of the game.
