IPL 2019: We Had a Tough Season This Year – Ajinkya Rahane
Rajasthan Royals have been knocked out of the ongoing season of the IPL 2019 as they lost their match against Delhi Capitals by five wickets. Royals skipper Ajinkya Rahane stated that they had a tough season. Rahane said they need to learn from their mistakes and come back stronger in the next season.
Rajasthan Royals won only five matches out of the 14 they played in the season whereas they lost eight matches to end the disappointing season. Rahane had led in the first eight matches and he was sacked by the franchise think tank from the captaincy duties. Subsequently, Steven Smith had led them in the next five matches.
Disappointing season for Rajasthan Royals.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals could only post 115 runs after Rahane won the toss and decided to bat first. The visitors kept losing wickets at regular intervals as no batsmen except Riyan Parag could get going. The youngster scored his maiden IPL fifty and became the youngest batsman to score a fifty in the IPL history.
Ajinkya Rahane said in the post-match presentation, “We had a tough season this year. We didn’t capitalise on the tough moments, we can’t place the blame on the boys for today, many of them are playing their 3rd or 4th game. We need to learn from this and come back well next season. Riyan Parag has been exceptional, so has Shreyas Gopal – he always thinks about taking wickets. We play the game with love and passion, it’s all about attitude”.
“We didn’t bat well, 140-150 would have been challenging. The bowlers gave it all, showed a lot of character. Ish (Sodhi), playing his second game, KG – all of them did well. Personally, my season was good, I was confident about batting. Captaincy and batting is different, I always want to give the best to my franchise, it’s all about staying positive and giving your best”.
Delhi Capitals have ticked the right boxes.
On the other hand, Delhi Capitals have 18 points under their belt and they are currently at the second position in the points table. Capitals have come up with a collective performance and they were once right on the money in the bowling innings.
Amit Mishra was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts as the veteran leg-spinner scalped three wickets and gave away only 17 runs in his four overs quota. Thus, the experienced leg-spinner was awarded the Man of the Match award.
