IPL 2019: When it Comes to T20 Cricket, No One is Sure About Their Spot Says Ishan Kishan

The three-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians will look to make 3 wins out of 3 when they meet the Kings XI Punjab in the 24th match of the tournament. MI defended a pretty low score of 136 runs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad and ended up winning the match quite convincingly by 40 runs. If they manage to beat Kings XI Punjab today they will leapfrog their opponents to the 3rd spot in the Latest points table.

Meanwhile Mumbai Indians wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan played his first match of the tournament against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He scored 17 but was, unfortunately, run out just when he was looking to press on the accelerator. Ishan Kishan missed the first four matches for Mumbai Indians. The southpaw understands the dynamics of competitive cricket and knows the main focus should always be on scoring runs whenever the opportunity comes his way.

“You know how competitive cricket is. Everyone looks to perform. There are many senior players. When you know you are going to play the IPL here then your main focus is how to maintain your form. So that when you get a chance you can prove to your team that you are capable enough. I have spoken to the coaches and they tell me to keep focusing and keep practising.”

Ishan Kishan further revealed that no players in the team take their place for granted. He added that all the players are on their toes whether they are senior or junior players. In T20 cricket no player is assured of his place in the XI. Hence it is important to come up with impressive performances whenever the chances are presented to them. Ishan Kishan feels that it all depends on the team and what they need at that particular situation.

“When it comes to T20 cricket, nobody is sure of their place. We have so many good players in the team. It is all about the team and in which situation, which player is needed and what the team needs. As a youngster or even senior player, we all have to be on our toes. We know that whenever we get a chance, we have to give our 100% and contribute so that the team can win,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Windies speedster Alzarri Joseph who made his debut for the Mumbai Indians against Sunrisers Hyderabad made history and took IPL by storm by registering the best ever bowling figures in IPL. He finished with 6/12 breaking the 12-year record by former Pakistan speedster Sohail Tanvir.

“In the U-19 World Cup, he had played very well. At that time, he was the standout player in the tournament. In fact, the way he bowls now, he has a completely different rhythm since he’s come here. Even during net sessions, whenever he bowls, he gives his best. We get to learn a lot from his net preparation routine,” Kishan said.

“The intensity with which he prepares in the nets; that intensity shows on the pitch. If you carefully evaluate his spell, he is bowling really well, and you would think that he is very consistent. Ups and downs do come but he remains very calm and while playing international cricket, he has maintained a neutral level.

That is very good quality. Compared to U-19, I feel now he has improved a lot in terms of his line, length and the way he reads the batsmen. All these aspects are very beneficial for our team.”

Ishan Kishan will look to make a difference when he comes out to bat against the Kings XI Punjab. In all likelihood, he will be given another chance and Ishan Kishan must make full use of the opportunity presented to him by the Mumbai Indians. Kishan is a powerful striker of the ball who can change the complexion with a single over. He proved his prowess during a group game against the Kolkata Knight Riders last year as he smashed international bowlers Kuldeep Yadav and Sunil Narine all around the park.
