Price and not performance is the reason why the franchise might look to release him. The franchise spent Rs 6.20 Crores on the youngster at IPL 2018 auction. He was a regular in playing XI in IPL 2018 but after the franchise acquired services of Quinton de Kock from Royal Challengers Bangalore before IPL 2019, his appearances dwindled and Ishan played just seven matches this year.

The franchise would want to keep him in the squad and might look to buy him back at a low price. Sunrisers Hyderabad had done the same thing with Wriddhiman Saha last year. They had bought him for Rs 5 Crore in 2018 and released him later. In the auction for IPL 2019, the franchise bought him back for Rs 1.2 Crore.
