Doubt over the future of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League or IPL 2020 is rising continuously as the lockdown period of the country has been extended till 3rd May 2020. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is going to take the next decision about the future of IPL 2020 soon as the postponement of this tournament is much likely to be extended indefinitely.
Due to various reasons, the BCCI took enough time to announce the schedule of the IPL 2020. Finally, the tournament was initially scheduled to be organised from 29th March to 24th May 2020. But the novel COVID-19 or coronavirus has become a strong barrier of this tournament.

Due to the global spread of this virus, the Indian government first suspended many visas till 15th April 2020 and also advised to host only the unavoidable events at empty stadiums. Observing that situation, the BCCI postponed the IPL 2020 till 15th April 2020, mainly focusing on the availability of the foreign players.
Soon, the government suspended all the events in the country and started to follow the 21-day lockdown period in the entire country until 14th April 2020. But while the situation is still away from the control, the government has decided to extend the lockdown period till 3rd May 2020.
IPL 2020 is not possible until at least 3rd May 2020
The latest extension of the lockdown period was very much expected. The BCCI is likely to organise a meeting on Wednesday (15th April) to take a further decision about the IPL 2020. While there is no other choice at the present moment, the board is much likely to extend the postponement indefinitely. According to the government’s next decision, the board can take their further steps on the future of the IPL 2020.

There are some speculations are running about the future of IPL 2020. However, the BCCI has clarified that they are currently not in the stage to decide the fate of the forthcoming IPL edition. If the tournament fails to happen, the board will have to bear a huge loss.
