The 13th edition of Indian Premier League or IPL 2020 has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. Though the fate of IPL 2020 is uncertain as the coronavirus is still dominating, many fans still believe that the 13th edition of the IPL can be held in the ongoing calendar year.

Since its inauguration in 2008, the IPL maintained the schedule every year till 2019. The IPL 2020 was also planned to run between 29th March and 24th May 2020. However, when the franchises were eyeing to start their preparation ahead of the new IPL 2020 season. However, coronavirus has forced organisers to postpone the tournament indefinitely.

As the situation hasn’t been controlled yet, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still clueless about the future of IPL 2020. Though they have reportedly brought up some important plans to organise the IPL 13 later this year, there is no assurance to successfully applying these plans.

However, many fans are still positive about the fate of IPL 2020. Recently, an Indian fantasy sports brand, named MyTeam11, conducted a survey, involving around 10,000 people, which reported that around 83% believed the sports might start by the end of the year 2020. But, around 40% of participants are still feeling uncomfortable to watch the game live in the stadium.

In their press release, the company stated, “83 percent of the poll takers pitched in to say that sports might get rolling again by the end of the year 2020 while nearly 40 percent will not feel comfortable attending sports events anytime before the year 2021. The pandemic has affected people greatly and they are unwilling to put their safety at stake.”

13% believe that IPL 2020 can be organised soon in empty stadiums

Talking about the IPL, the survey reveals that around 60% of people still have positive feelings to see IPL 13 this year. Meanwhile, around 13% believe that the IPL 2020 can be organised in empty stadiums during the upcoming June-July window.

The press release added, “Nearly 40 people of the poll takers believe that it might not happen this year. On the other hand, 13 percent of the people believe that it should be organised in empty stadiums during the June-July window.”

Moreover, around 63% of people are eagerly waiting for sports. However, almost 20% of people are okay to see sports after 3-4 months.

It continued, “Where on one hand 63 percent of the sports fraternity is eagerly waiting for sports to resume soon, 20 percent of the people are okay even if it resumes in 3-4 months.”

According to the latest media reports, the BCCI is eyeing to organise the IPL 2020 in the last half of this year. While Asia Cup 2020 and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 are currently doubtful in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the IPL 2020 can be organised in these windows – September-November. However, these can be only possible if the country and the world handle the pandemic in the upcoming months and the postponement of the forthcoming international tournaments.
