On Tuesday (6th October) night, the defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) comfortably beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 57 runs at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium (Abu Dhabi).

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma decided to bat first after winning the toss. While MI scored 193/4 (20 overs) at the end of the first innings, RR replied with only 136 (all-out) runs in 18.1 overs.

  • It is the largest victory (by runs) for Mumbai Indians against Rajasthan Royals. Their previous record was winning by 37 runs at Jaipur on 11th April 2010.
  • Since Rajasthan Royals returned to the IPL in 2018 after completing their two-year suspension period, it was the first victory for Mumbai Indians against the Rajasthan franchise. With this victory, MI ended RR’s 4-match winning streak against them. Before this game, MI beat RR for the last time during the 32nd match of the IPL 2015 (at Mumbai on 1st May 2015), where MI won by eight runs.

i) In the second innings of this match, Rajasthan Royals scored only 136 runs.

  • It was the second-lowest completed total for Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians. Their lowest record in this list is 103 (16.2 overs) at Mumbai on 7th May 2008.

  • Surpassing Suresh Raina (193 IPL matches), Rohit Sharma became the second most capped player in IPL history. MS Dhoni is the present most capped player in the IPL history as he has played 195 IPL matches.

ii) Rohit Sharma played his 158th T20 match for MI.

  • Rohit Sharma became the joint second-most capped player for Mumbai Indians in T20 cricket by equalling the record of their former cricketer Harbhajan Singh (158 T20s for MI). Only Kieron Pollard is ahead of them in this list as he has played 176 T20s for this team.

  • It was the second-highest individual score by an Indian batsman for Mumbai Indians against Rajasthan Royals. The record is 89 not out by MI skipper Sachin Tendulkar at Jaipur on 11th April 2010.

  • It is the best bowling figures for Mumbai Indians against Rajasthan Royals. The previous record was 3.4-0-28-4 by Munaf Patel at Mumbai on 11th April 2012. 
  • It is the best bowling figures in the IPL 2020. The previous best was 4-0-24-4 by Kagiso Rabada (Delhi Capitals) against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Dubai (DSC) on 5th October 2020.
