In the 29th match of the IPL 2020, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) claimed a crucial victory against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium (Dubai).

After winning the toss, Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni decided to bat first. CSK managed to score 167/6 (20 overs) in the first innings. In reply, SRH only scored 147/8 (20 overs) as CSK won by 20 runs.

SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) innings

Sam Curran broke the dangerous opening partnership between David Warner and Jonny Bairstow at the early period as Warner (9) was caught and bowled out in the fourth over of that innings. In that same over, Dwayne Bravo’s direct hit sent Manish Pandey (4) back to the pavilion.

Opener Bairstow and Kane Williamson tried to control that innings and built up the 32 runs partnership for the third wicket before the English opener lost his wicket. In the 10th over, Ravindra Jadeja bowled Bairstow for 23 runs.

From 7th to 11th over, SRH failed to score a boundary which built up the huge pressure in that chasing. In the 15th over, Priyam Garg (16) lost his wicket as Karn Sharma took that wicket.

In the 17th over, Dwayne Bravo took the wicket of Vijay Shankar (12). On the next ball, Kane Williamson completed his fifty in 36 balls with a four. In the next over, Williamson was dismissed on 57 runs off 39 balls (7 fours) as Karn Sharma got his second wicket of the match.

Rashid Khan tried hard but in the 19th over he lost his wicket through the hit wicket after scoring 14 runs off 8 balls (1 four and 1 six).

In the last two overs of that match, SRH had to score 27 runs to win that game. But the disciplined CSK bowlers conceded only six runs in the last 12 balls and took two wickets to secure a comfortable and very crucial victory to bring back the confidence in the side.

Among the CSK bowlers, Dwayne Bravo (2/25) and Karn Sharma (2/37) took two wickets each.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) innings

It was the first time for CSK to bat in the first innings of a match in IPL 2020. However, pacer Sandeep Sharma provided a good start for SRH as he dismissed both the CSK openers inside the powerplay. It was the new opening combination for CSK as Sam Curran started the innings with Faf du Plessis.

Du Plessis scored a golden duck while Curran scored 31 runs off 21 balls (3 fours and 2 sixes) before Sandeep Sharma bowled him.

Then Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu controlled the innings with the strong third-wicket partnership. They had the 81 runs partnership for that wicket. But in the early death overs, both were dismissed in the 40s. Khaleel Ahmed brought the breakthrough in the 16th over after dismissing Rayudu for 41 runs off 34 balls (3 fours and 2 sixes). Then, Thangarasu Natarajan dismissed Watson (42 off 38 balls; only four and 3 sixes) in the next over.

In the late moment of that innings, captain MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja played some crucial cameos to stretch that first innings total to 160+. Dhoni scored 21 runs off 13 balls (2 fours and only six) before Natarajan got his dream wicket, while Jadeja remained not out on 25 runs off just 10 balls (3 fours and only six).

Among the SRH bowlers, Sandeep Sharma (2/19), Khaleel Ahmed (2/45) and Thangarasu Natarajan (2/41) all took two wickets each.
