The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is hosting the entire 13th edition of the Indian Premier League or IPL 2020. This tournament is running from 19th September to 10th November 2020.

The IPL 2020 was originally scheduled to run in India between 29th March and 24th May 2020. But due to the coronavirus outbreak, that tournament was postponed in middle of the March.

Despite many struggles during this pandemic, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have managed to reschedule the IPL 2020 after deciding to organize the entire tournament in the UAE. This tournament will run in three different venues – Dubai International Cricket Stadium (Dubai), Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium (Abu Dhabi), and Sharjah Cricket Stadium (Sharjah). The tournament will run in a normal structure, which we have experienced in recent times.

All the eight existing teams are participating in the IPL 2020. These participating teams are as follows along with their best IPL records:

Mumbai Indians (MI) – the defending champions of IPL 2020 and four-time IPL winners (2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019)

Rajasthan Royals (RR) – one-time IPL winners (2008)

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) – one-time IPL winners (2016)

Like the previous year, the IPL 2020 has started with the League stage where each team are facing all the other teams twice (double round-robin system). The League stage will have a total of 56 matches which will run between 19th September and 3rd November 2020. The league stage started with the match between IPL 2019 finalists MI vs CSK at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium (Abu Dhabi) and it will end with the match SRH vs MI at Sharjah Cricket Stadium (Sharjah).

At the end of the league stage, the top four teams in the points table will qualify for the playoffs. The detailed schedule and venue of the IPL 2020 playoffs will be announced later.

In the playoffs, while the top two teams in the points table will meet in the Qualifier 1, the remaining two teams will face each other in the Eliminator. While the winner of Qualifier 1 will directly qualify for the final of the IPL 2020, the loser of the Eliminator will end their journey in the tournament.

In the meantime, the loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator will later face each other in the Qualifier 2 where the victorian side will face the winner of Qualifier 1 in the final of the IPL 2020. Ultimately, the winner of the final will win the IPL 2020 trophy on 10th November 2020.
