Just after the second strategic time-out in that innings, Chris Jordan dismissed Manish Pandey (15 off 29 balls).
In the crucial moment, the set batsman Vijay Shankar (26 off 27 balls; 4 fours) was caught behind as Arshdeep Singh picked that important wicket. During that dismissal, SRH still had to score 17 runs in 13 balls and they had five wickets in hands.
Chris Jordan bowled brilliantly in the 19th over as he conceded only three runs and dismissed Jason Holder (5) and Rashid Khan (0) in two consecutive deliveries.
In the final over, SRH had to score 14 runs to win while Arshdeep Singh bowled that deciding over. Arshdeep bowled excellently in that final over as he took two back-to-back wickets before Khaleel Ahmed was run-out on the fifth ball of that over that ended the game.
At the end of that innings, Chris Jordan (3/17) and Arshdeep Singh (3/23) picked up three wickets each. While all their other three bowlers managed to pick up one wicket each, Ravi Bishnoi was incredible as he had the bowling figures of 4-0-13-1.
Scorecard:
Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) innings
KXIP batsmen struggled in the entire innings. The new opening partners, skipper KL Rahul and Mandeep Singh managed to provide a positive start with the 37 runs partnership for the opening wicket. In the 5th over of that innings, Sandeep Sharma completed his 100 IPL wickets after dismissing Mandeep Singh for 17 runs.
Then opener Rahul and Chris Gayle put the 29 runs partnership for the second wicket. Jason Holder and Rashid Khan dismissed them in the back-to-back deliveries, and since then, KXIP lost their wickets at regular intervals as they failed to produce another 20 runs partnership. While Gayle scored 20 off 20 balls (2 fours and only six), Rahul similarly scored 27 runs off 27 balls (2 fours and only six).
After their dismissals, Nicholas Pooran tried hard to control that innings but he didn’t any support from the other end. While Pooran was the highest run-scorer in that innings as he remained not out on 32 runs off 28 balls (2 fours), Glenn Maxwell was the only other batsman in that innings to reach the double-digit mark as the Aussie scored 12 runs.
SRH leg-spinner Rashid Khan was brilliant with the ball in hand as he managed the bowling figures of 4-0-14-2. Sandeep Sharma (2/29) and Jason Holder (2/27) also managed to pick up two wickets. All the SRH bowlers were very much in control in that entire innings as they didn’t allow KXIP batsmen to score freely.
