On Thursday (24th September) evening, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) thrashed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 97 runs at Dubai International Cricket Stadium (Dubai).

After winning the toss, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli decided to field first. While KXIP scored 206/3 (20 overs) in the first innings, RCB were bundled out for just 109 runs (17 overs).

i) Playing his 60th IPL innings, KL Rahul completed his 2000 IPL runs. He has scored 2130 runs in IPL career

  • KL Rahul became the fastest Indian cricketer to complete 2000 IPL runs. The previous record-holder was Sachin Tendulkar who completed 2000 IPL runs in 63 innings. 
  • KL Rahul became the third-fastest batsman to complete 2000 IPL runs. The two fastest batsmen in this list are Chris Gayle (48 innings to complete 2000 IPL runs) and Shaun Marsh (52 innings to complete 2000 IPL runs).

ii) KL Rahul completed his century in 62 balls.

  • It was the first century in IPL 2020.
  • It was the slowest century for a KXIP batsman. Their previous record holder in this list was Hashim Amla who scored 59-ball century against Gujarat Lions at Chandigarh on 7th May 2017. 
  • It was KL Rahul’s second IPL century and both were for KXIP. Rahul is the second batsman to hit more than one century for this team. Hashim Amla also scored two centuries for this team.

iii) Captain KL Rahul scored 132 not out off 69 balls.

  • It was the highest individual score for a captain in IPL history. David Warner (Sunrisers Hyderabad) was the previous record holder in this list with 126 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Hyderabad (Deccan) on 30th April 2017.
  • It was the highest individual score for an Indian batsman in IPL history. The previous record was 128 not out by Rishabh Pant (Delhi Daredevils) against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Delhi on 10th May 2018. 
  • It was the fourth-highest individual score in IPL history.

  • AB de Villiers became the joint second-most T20 six-hitter for RCB. Virat Kohli has also hit 204 T20 sixes for RCB. The record-holder is Chris Gayle who smashed 263 T20 sixes for RCB.
