Iyer is handling the leadership role of Delhi Capitals since the middle of the IPL 2018 after Gautam Gambhir stepped down from that role. Leading Delhi franchise from the front, Iyer has captained the team in 24 IPL matches where his team won 13 matches and lost 10 games (one tied win). Under his leadership, Delhi Capitals achieved their joint-best record in IPL history in the last edition by finishing as the third-best side.
