Rajasthan Royals team mentor Shane Warne has given an update on the availability of Ben Stokes in the IPL 2020 for RR. Ben Stokes is back home in New Zealand to see his ailing father who is battling brain cancer. Stokes left the England Test series against Pakistan midway, as he headed back home.
He hasn’t joined the IPL camp in the UAE yet and Rajasthan Royals have missed him a lot in their middle order which is struggling. If he decides to play, Stokes will be seen in the Rajasthan Royals colours for the third year this season. The star all-rounder has played 34 IPL matches so far and scored 635 runs at an average of 22.67. He also has 26 wickets to his name in the IPL.
Shane Warne feels there is still a chance for Ben Stokes to play in this IPL
Warne did not let out an exact date for his Stokes to join the RR team in UAE, but he is hopeful that he will play a part this year. He said the team that won against KXIP would have looked a great side if Stokes was there.
“Hopefully, Ben Stokes would play a part this year, he’s a big loss and our thoughts are with him, but you know, add Ben to the team that played the other night and it looks a very, very good side,” Shane Warne had told PTI ahead of their game against KKR on Wednesday, which they lost.
Shane Warne likes the Steve Smith opening for RR
The former RR spinner is happy with Smith opening the innings for RR. Smith had scored two important knocks in their opening two matches of 69 and 50. Warne is of the opinion that the best players should face the most number of balls and hence he supports Jos Buttler, Smith and Sanju Samson at the one, two and three spots, respectively for the Royals.
“I liked it, him (Smith) coming to open the innings. I am always a big believer in your best player having the opportunity to face the most amount of deliveries, so for me you know Jos Buttler, Steve Smith and Sanju are one, two and three, respectively,” Warne said.
“Steve Smith and Andrew McDonald might have different ideas but I would always want my best players facing the maximum number of balls. We’ve got so many good players who could play so many different roles, but I personally like Steve Smith at the top,” he added.
Rajasthan Royals now sit third on the IPL table with two victories and one loss to their name. They will next face Royal Challengers Bangalore on October 3rd at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
