Royal Challenger Bangalore’s skipper Faf du Plessis opened up about his relationship with the legendary AB de Villiers with whom he shared his playing days at a young age. The 38-year-old is currently leading Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League.
Faf du Plessis made an appearance on the RCB Podcast Season 2 ahead of the season. The former South African skipper spoke about many things in RCB Podcast about his leadership skills, his lifestyle, what keeps him going in cricket, and his long-time friendship with Ab de Villiers.
“We were rivals in primary school. He was based on the east side of town and I was 13 years old. We went to the same school which is one of the best sporting schools in South Africa,” Faf du Plessis said.
Speaking on their school days, Faf du Plessis said that Ab de Villiers was very competitive and said that 360-degree batter would be used to wow everyone around him as everyone saw his potential at a very young age and added that he was good at every sport including Hockey, Rugby, and Cricket.
“We were like super competitive personalities. It was a very competitive relationship at first that grew into a friendship. AB’s path was so different from mine. AB was the best. He would just turn it up and be amazing. He’d pull out this inning and everyone would go wow this guy needs to play for South Africa live,” he added.
Faf du Plessis took over the captaincy of Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of IPL 2022 and did very well in the first season taking them to playoffs and will look forward to winning the first-ever trophy for RCB in 2023. Du Plessis played IPL 2022 for RCB, scoring 468 runs. As RCB captain, he will have a massive role to play at the top of the order.
AB de Villiers Would Turn It Up To Another Level – Faf du Plessis
Faf du Plessis recalled the memories of their playing days for different schools, where AB de Villiers would hammer the bowlers in the school cricket. Ab de Villiers and Faf du Plessis were good friends during their playing days for the Proteas.
“AB didn’t care. He was like I’m just gonna play cricket, I’m just gonna have fun but then during the national week at the end of the season; when we got picked out of all of the different schools as franchises to represent your age group you go to a tournament against all the other states. AB would turn it up to another level and he used to score three hundred in five games,” Faf du Plessis said.
Faf-du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore suffered a heavy defeat in hands of Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous encounter and RCB will look to turn things around when they take on Lucknow Super Giants on April 10.
