Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Mahipal Lomror said that he is enjoying his time playing for RCB and sharing the dressing room with legendary Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. The 23-year-old was picked by Faf du Plessis-led side in the 2022 mega IPL auction for INR 95 lakhs.

The youngster played 7 matches in RCB colours last season in the 2nd half of the IPL, scoring 86 runs, and was trusted to play in the number three position for the side in 2023 in Rajat Patidar’s absence. Lomror is elated on being provided with an opportunity to play with world-class batters at the top of the order for the Bangalore side.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Times of India, Mahipal Lomror expressed his gratitude to play alongside the Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli and their skipper Faf du Plessis in the cash-rich league. He added that he learns a lot from observing their work ethics and tries to learn many things from the legends of the game.

“I am really enjoying my time at RCB. I have got consistent opportunities at RCB. The presence of Virat bhai and Faf can teach you a lot. I observe them and learn from those things. I admire Virat Bhai’s work ethic and the way he worships this game. He has been an incredible leader and a champion batter,” Mahipal Lomror said.

An effortless spin-hitter who bowls left-arm spin and bats left-handed is considered an invaluable T20 player for RCB but couldn’t replicate his expectation so far. Mahipal Lomror had a poor start in the league so far as the left-handed batter has managed to score just 26 runs from three outings in IPL 2023 at an ordinary strike rate of 113.04.

Mahipal Lomror revealed that Virat Kohli wants the youngsters to express themselves on the field and asserted the Indian Premier League prepares a player to play both mentally and physically to play at the highest level.

“The best thing about Virat bhai is that he will ask you to express yourself on the field. When a youngster plays in the IPL, he targets his next step – representing the Indian team. IPL is a platform to prepare for that step (playing for India) both physically and mentally,” Mahipal Lomror added.

The Rajasthan youngster went on add that he learns a lot from the net session from Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, and hard-hitting Glenn Maxwell and expressed his ambitions to play for the country very soon.

Royal Challengers Bangalore had a mixed start to the 2023 season. They are currently in the eighth spot with four points to their name with two wins from five games and they will look to make comeback to winning ways against Punjab Kings on Thursday.
