Delhi Capitals assistant coach Shane Watson believes that their team still has a lot of things to play for in the final home game against Chennai Super Kings in Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday. The David Warner-led side has failed to make an impact in this edition of IPL losing eight matches from 13 games played so far.

Delhi Capitals was the first team to be eliminated from the league stage of IPL 2023 but came back stronger against Punjab Kings in the previous encounter, where their batters batted brilliantly to help register their 5th win in the league stage.

Former CSK opener Shane Watson, who is currently on the Delhi Capitals support staff, feels that the players will have a lot to perform for the team and as an individual in the final home game and reckons that the team can come with huge confidence after the win against Shikhar Dhawan-led side in their previous game.

“We certainly have a lot to play for as a franchise and individually. Hopefully, we can perform really well and take confidence from our win against Punjab Kings,” Shane Watson said.

The 41-year-old believes that they are a lot of learnings this season, as many young players developing their skillset in the Delhi Capitals camp this season, and said that those youngsters can hopefully deliver for the team in the upcoming seasons.

“There has been a lot of progress and development for the younger Indian batters during this season. We’ve been working with individual players to help them grow as fast as they can. This year has played a big part in the younger players’ development; hopefully, we’ve set them up for the upcoming seasons,” he said.

Delhi Capitals is one of the teams that struggled to find their combination in IPL 2023, as they frequently changed their playing 11 as most of the players could not make an impact on the side. Their overseas players Rilee Rossouw, Mitchell Marsh, Rovman Powell, and Anrich Nortje were inconsistent with their performance in the league stage.

Prithvi Shaw Is One Of The Most Beautiful Batters To Watch – Shane Watson

Shane Watson was happy for the Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw’s return to form, who struck his first half-century in the game against Punjab Kings. In his comeback game, the youngster Shaw smacked 54 runs off 38 deliveries.

“Prithvi Shaw is one of the most beautiful batters to watch. And his time off from the playing eleven has seemed to give him a chance to focus on the direction he wants to move in. He certainly had an extra bit of fire in the belly in our last game,” Shane Watson added.

The young Indian opener has played only six games for his side before the Punjab Kings but could not make an impact with the bat in IPL 2023, as he was dismissed very cheaply in the first six games.
