IPL: 5 Fastest Centuries In This Tournament

Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most successful T20 leagues in the cricket world. While many believe that the T20 cricket format is favorable for the batsmen, IPL has proven it many times.

In the 12-year-long IPL history, we have seen many great furious batting performances, including firing centurion knocks from the reputed aggressive batsmen.

Here are the top five fastest centuries in IPL history

AB de Villiers (Royal Challengers Bangalore) – 43 balls vs Gujarat Lions at Bangalore on 14th May 2016

Former South African captain AB de Villiers is one of the greatest batsmen in the cricket world who can play solid knocks by maintaining his aggressive batting. So, there is no surprise to see him on this list.

It was the 44th game of the IPL 2016 where the hosts Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced Gujarat Lions. After the opener Chris Gayle (6) was dismissed cheaply in the first innings of that match, RCB captain Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers took the full control in that innings. Both Kohli (109) and De Villiers smashed centuries, but the Proteas star completed his century in just 43 balls. The right-handed batsman remained not out on 129 runs off just 52 balls (10 fours and 12 sixes) as RCB scored 248/3 (20 overs).

Later, RCB won that match by 144 runs after bundling out the visitors for just 104 runs (18.4 overs).

Adam Gilchrist (Deccan Chargers) – 42 balls vs Mumbai Indians at Mumbai on 27th April 2008

In the 14th game of the first IPL (2008), Deccan Chargers wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist thrashed his opponent Mumbai Indians (MI) with his firing centurion knock. Chasing down the 155 runs target at the away venue, opening batsman Gilchrist dominated the opposition bowlers while his opening partner and captain VVS Laxman provided the proper support from the other end.

Gilchrist completed his century in just 42 balls, which became the fastest IPL century at that time. The left-handed batsman scored 109 not out off just 47 balls (9 fours and 10 sixes). Gilchrist and Laxman (37 not out) set up the 155 runs partnership (12 overs) for the unbroken first wicket as Deccan Chargers won that match by 10 wickets. It was their first victory in the IPL history.

Along with Rajagopal Sathish, Miller put quick-fire 130 runs partnership for the unbroken fifth wicket that helped the KXIP to win that match by six wickets as they chased down that target in 18 overs. Miller finished that game with a sixer which also helped him to complete his century in just 38 balls as he remained not out on 101 runs off 38 balls (8 fours and 7 sixes).

In the second innings of that game, Yusuf came to bat when Rajasthan Royals were struggling on 40/3. Soon, they were battling on 66/4. Then Yusuf and Paras Dogra brilliantly built up the 107 runs partnership for the fifth wicket. Yusuf smashed the 37-ball century which he completed with a sixer, but he was run out on the next ball when he was at the non-striker-end.
